The June 2023 edition
This twelve-page guide dated 16 June 2023 explains organisations reporting commissions paid for services by NON-employees: self-employed contract-for-service earners and other organisations. Its screenshots and example years are historical, and its expense thresholds should be read as the source edition rather than assumptions about all later years.
Three submission steps
The annual service opens 2 January. Prepare individual name, NRIC/FIN, nationality, gender, birth date and designation, or corporate registered name/UEN. Report gross commission including referral fees, allowances and incentives. Authorise staff and use myTax Submit Commission Records where no own software exists, or an API-enabled software. Submit by 1 March; the guide encourages 10 February for processing and qualifying No-Filing Service.
Amount corrections and the two-year window
IRAS does not edit/delete records; submitted gross figures are added. Correct by the DIFFERENCE: actual S$25,000 less S$21,000 reported means +S$4,000; actual S$6,000 less S$8,000 means −S$2,000. ID changes need amendment treatment too. Personal detail changes such as birth date/designation go through Corppass myTax Mail, Others > e-Submission > Commission, rather than numeric amendment. The service accepts two back years; the YA2023 example covers YA2021/2022, older changes go to myTax Mail. Electronic amendments are due 31 March.
The earner still verifies prefilled income
First and second commission sources are separate; others are combined as Other Companies. Check completeness, contact the payer about errors and amend the personal return where appropriate; payer should also correct its submitted record. Include additional co-broking or other commissions not reported by organisations and do not deduct expenses before declaring gross revenue.
Every business-information field
Leave Business Name empty if not ACRA-registered and select No for registration; do not use the payer organisation’s UEN as your own. Correct nature among commodity/futures, FX, stocks/shares/bonds brokers, insurance, real-estate or other commission agents. New agents enter commencement at first revenue. Enter accounting dates; without another period use 1 January–31 December of the income year, such as 2022 for YA2023.
All three source-edition expense bands
For total gross commissions from ALL sources up to S$50,000, the source offers 25% deemed expenses or actual allowable expenses. S$50,001–S$200,000 uses actual expenses and adjusted profit/loss, without 25%. Above S$200,000 complete four-line revenue, gross profit, allowable expenses and automatically calculated adjusted profit. With no goods sold, gross profit can equal commission revenue.
Accounts and GST tests
Above S$500,000 revenue the guide requires certified profit/loss and balance sheet signed as true/correct with the return. Its GST reminder aggregates taxable revenue from ALL businesses/trades/professions and uses more than S$1 million at calendar-year end or expected next twelve months. The annual commission e-submission and personal tax return do not replace assessing GST-registration liability.
