Who pays
Employers must arrange a S$5,000 security bond for each non-Malaysian Work Permit holder. It is a bank or insurer’s guarantee; the cost cannot be passed to the worker.
Before arrival
Arrange the bond and allow for transmission of its details to MOM, which can take up to three working days. It must be effective when the worker arrives. Verify the status through WP Online and provide the acknowledgement to the worker.
Discharge and forfeiture
Discharge requires cancellation of the permit, the worker’s return home and no breach of the bond conditions. It is usually completed a week after departure. Breaches, unpaid salary, failure to repatriate or a missing worker may result in forfeiture.
